Game Races

Heroes of Gaia features four central races, Human, Orc, Elf, and Undead. These races, in turn, are categorized into two camps, known as the Unionists (Human and Elf) and the Separatists (Undead and Orc). Each race boasts somewhat unique units, whilst the camps share differing hero abilities, researched at the Magic Tower

The main difference between the races is the slight variance in units. These variations include:

  • Completely different unit graphics, animation, name, and description
  • Variations in unit statistics (the only exception to this is the tier 2 scouting unit, which retains the same stats for every race)
  • Differences in price, building time, and 'unit cost' (maintenance)
  • Whether a unit in a particular tier is melee or ranged, and how many ranged unit the race has. For example humans have three ranged units (tiers 3, 6 and 8) while undead have only two (tiers 6 and 8). Ranged units make it much easier to kill NPCs without taking losses, and hence getting them early is important.

As mentioned above, there are small spell differences in the two camps. However, these differences only apply to Hero Spells; Castle Spells are the same for every race. For more details please visit the Game Spells page.

All heroes recruited at the Tavern also have race affiliations, although this makes little difference game-play wise as any race can recruit a hero of any other race. Race does not affect the specific stats of a hero (for example, Elf heroes do NOT have a higher average spd stat). There are small graphical differences, observed in the backdrop for the hero, as well as their steed when traveling across the map.

Human: The strongest country on the whole land, Alasia, the Kingdom of Humans are located on the plain in the central western part of Antagarich. The War of Recovery broke out after Grivonhart, the former king of Alasia was assassinated. Though winning the final victory, Alasia was severely destroyed and declined rapidly. As a result, some previously weak races such as the Elves and the Orcs started to revolted against the reign of the Humans.

Queen Catherine, the leader of the Humans, is an excellent queen in many ways. Can the Humans restore their brilliance under her leadership?
Based on the Heroes of Might and Magic III, human characters are realistic and in bright colours. The images as a whole are relatively conservative. Basic attributes of human heroes and soldiers are balanced. The attack and defence of the advanced soldiers are high whereas their price and recruitment time are normal.

Elf: Most of the Elves live in …. Forest, north of the …. Land and have established a country—Avily together with the Humans. The personality that they don’t like compete with others makes the Elves in a infavourable position in the political struggle with the Humans. Most elves live in the upper layer of the society in Avily. After the War of Recovery, some elves occupied Wilnin, northern border with Alasia and declared independence, which made Alasia and Avily sent out troop together to Wilnin.
Under the leadership of …, the Elves successfully defeated the Humans and turn over a new page of their history.

Elegant and dimly, elven characters have long ears. In terms of attributes, elven heroes have outstanding “attack” and “speed” and elven soldiers have “relatively high attack”, “highest speed”, but low defence, relatively high price, long recruitment time.

Orc: The orcish kingdom is called Crewrod. The Orcs had their golden age long time ago. It is said that most land of Entagarich belonged to Crewrod at that time. After the rise of Bracada, however, the Orcs was reigned by wizards. Afterwards, under the leadership of Tannon, Ares of Ruins, the Orcs launched the War of Independence and overturned the reign of Bracada. Later, Crewrod had to swear fealty to Alasia due to the prosperity of the latter and the death of Tannon.
Crewrod was always a colony of the Humans before the War of Recovery. During the War, the Orcs defeated the marsh race and obtained control of the western area of Alasia, gradually recovering their past glory.

Orcish characters are rough and boorish and often wear clothes of remote antiquity. Their colour are green on the whole and they all look very savage. Orcish heroes have very high attack and orcish soldier have relatively high attack and the highest HP, but the lowest speed, normal price and relatively long recruitment time.

Undead: The ancestors of the Undead are wizards who tried their utmost to learn dark spells. Later, they left due to discrimination, entered Avily, seized some land there by the use of forces and established their country—Deca.
During the War of Recovery, Wilma, leader of the Undead, fell in a plot. The defeated Undead fled back to their own territory after the War and the Human, however, didn’t have the ability to continue their attack. Meanwhile, among the Undead, there is an ongoing competition for the throne. Undead wizards believe that no matter who gets the throne, the Undead will become stronger rapidly.

Undead characters are dark and mysterious. The image of a male undead is similar to a ghost and that of a female one a skeleton. Both of them give us an evil and dark feeling. Undead heroes have outstanding “intelligence” and “attack”. As for soldiers, other attributes are quite low except for HP, but it will take you the least time to recruit them.
